JPod Productions was awarded the bronze award in the “Wedding” category of the VISTA awards of New England on February 28, 2012 in Dedham, MA.  JPod Productions was the only Massachusetts company west of Worcester to win an award at the regional competition. JPod Productions’ wedding film “Jennifer & Jason” was deemed the 3rd best wedding video by cinematographer companies in New England.

The “Jennifer and Jason” feature film was a 22-minute video that told the story of Jennifer (Felix) and Jason Pease’s wedding day in June of 2011 in Ludlow, MA. The wedding took place at Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Ludlow with the reception in the same town at the Lusitano Club. The VISTA awards are a New England-based competition run by the National Professional Videographer’s Association of New England (NPVA/NE). Awards are presented in four categories including “Wedding”, “Wedding Highlight”, “Corporate”, and “Other”. The “Wedding” category is comprised of longer videos that creatively document a couple’s complete wedding day.

In the world of wedding films, it is not legal to purchase music from Itunes and use it in a wedding film to post online. As I use the art of the wedding video to make a living, I have a lot of respect for musicians who are doing the same with their form of art. Without music, our world would move a step or two slower. Therefore, in 2012, JPod Productions is signing on with Songfreedom to bring our couples and business clients the best variety of music available for the cinematic films while supporting the musicians who are helping our industry thrive.

The reason I love SongFreedom is because of their selection – they feature a lot of popular music, such as Train, Rob Thomas, One Republic, Colbie Caillait, and many more!  The song selection is great, and this new music is going to add a whole new element to our feature films and wedding highlight films.

When it comes to great personalities, Lindsey Grgurich (Cassanelli) is right at the top of the list. Lindsey’s wedding day with Austin was a beautiful, warm summer day that has personality, genuine love and lots of fun. Lindsey and Austin chose to do their photos before the ceremony, which provided us with a great first look and ample time for a great photo session. Lindsey chose a beautiful one strap dress from Bridal Heirlooms in South Hadley, MA, while Austin was very stylish with a lighter grey tuxedo that better fit the season and the outdoor ceremony. Lindsey’s make-up was done by Naomi’s Salon and it looked perfect as well.

We got to work with a very cool and talented photographer in Eric Foley, while Dan Cavanaugh from And the Beat Goes On DJ kept the dance floor rockin’ all night. The ceremony and reception took place at the Riverview in Simsbury with much of the photo session taking place on the Old Drake Bridge in Simsbury, Connecticut. The bridge is an awesome drop back for photos if you are in that area for a wedding. Click here to see a direct link to some of Lindsey & Austin’s wedding photos. Music for this clip is licensed through songfreedom.

February’s vendor of the month can take an average looking venue and turn it into something magnificent. Who needs Hollywood when you have Jim Powers right here in Massachusetts. CJC Event Lighting has been in the wedding business since 1984 and their business specializes in lighting for events, especially weddings. Their experience has taken them all around New England in venues big, small and everything in between. Although weddings are their specialty, the experience of lighting trade shows, fashion shows and concerts only makes Jim Powers and his company more prepared for every situation.

When it comes to lighting, there are so many ways to improve the look of your venue. If you have watched shows like Platinum Weddings or My Fair Wedding, the mood lighting or color wash that changes the look of a room is accomplished through uplighting. CJC Event Lighting is providing brides and grooms the opportunity to include uplighting in the New England area and making reception rooms look spectacular. Simpler methods to enhance your venue are to use pin spot lighting or gobo projections. Pin spot lighting is a simple way to highlight one element of your reception like the cake or centerpiece on a table. Gobo projections are used to project a couple’s initials or an abstract texture pattern on a wall, ceiling or dance floor.

CJC Event Lighting can design a room that meets your needs and desires for your one and only big day. When designing this type of lighting at your wedding, you want a professional and Jim Powers is exactly that. In all the experiences I have had with Jim, he is cordial, personable, creative and professional. He’s one vendor I never worry about coming through with what is promised. Check out some of Jim’s lighting samples in the pictures below (click on the picture to see a larger version).

Should I get a wedding video? It is an a question that is often answered the wrong way? And when the wedding is over, it’s too late. A recent survey conducted by onewed found that not getting a wedding video (or wedding film as I like to call it) is the number one regret of newlyweds after the wedding. See the article here.

Wedding films have come so far in just the last 3-5 years ago. The ability of wedding filmmakers to tell couples’ stories using an unobtrusive style and a high quality picture is elevating wedding films higher and higher on brides and grooms’ wedding budget lists. The amount of quality filmmakers in the wedding industry is growing each year in every market. If a couple does their research and invests properly into a videographer or filmmaker, then they will receive a quality product that will be treasured for years and years to come. If you stumbled on this post from another area and want a local vendor, reach out to me and I will point you in the right direction. Those who invest in this industry, stick together.

Before I even started JPod Productions, I chose to have my wedding videotaped. Other than the obvious reasons of being able to relive a day which flew by like a blur, there are two more reasons why I am so thankful I made the choice to have my wedding documented. First, my children absolutely love to watch it. It is exciting, and extremely healthy for them to see that their mother and father at a younger age at such a happy occasion. Secondly, my mother passed away 16 months after the wedding. My Mom was 54 when I got married and her health appeared to be just fine on the day I said “I do”. Our Mother-Son dance was one of the most special moments for me with my Mom. I will always have it to cherish. I never would have guessed that it would be the way my children remember their Gram that they never met…

I used to wait until I worked with a vendor a few times before recommending them as a vendor of the month, but after working with Daria and Andy Bishop, it was clear that they needed to be highlighted sooner rather than later. Therefore, after spending one Sunday in August with Daria Bishop Photography, they get the nod as being not only one of the top photographers in New England, but January’s Vendor of the Month.

Why do they get the nod? The motto of their Vermont-based website says it all  – “Fresh, Fun & Distinctive Wedding Photography”. The husband and wife team of Daria and Andy Bishop bring a fresh, easy-going personality to the wedding day and their couples reflect that personality. I think that was one of the main reasons we worked so well together – we attract similar couples.

On a hectic day (Hurricane Irene), they remained calm, flexible and creative. It was fun to share ideas which only enhanced both the pictures and the film. The fluidness of our day made it fell like we worked with Daria and Andy on a regular basis. On the technical side, Daria and Andy’s eye for details is impeccable, while their use of natural light is something that I truly appreciate. As we travel around New England in the coming years, I hope we have more weddings in Northern Vermont, or anywhere with Daria Bishop Photography. It was an easy choice for the first dress and attire honoree, as sisters Shirley & Christine at Bridal Heirlooms in South Hadley seem to be doing everything right for brides and their families. Great service, care and knowledge are three qualities that Bridal Heirlooms take pride in with every client and that is why they are the Vendor of the Month for December. I first met Shirley and Christine a few years back when I picked up a bridesmaid dress for my wife. My two-minute stop turned out to be a 30-minute conversation about weddings, dresses and business. During the visit, I was able to see them interact with a customer as well. Genuine. Personal. Friendly. Those are the words that come to mind watching them work with a potential bride.

Everyone bride that I have come in contact with that has worked with Bridal Heirlooms has nothing but good things to say about Shirley and Christine. This bridal boutique carries the top designers like Maggie Sottero, Watters, and Jasmine just to name a few. Bridal Heirlooms can help brides find a wedding dress, bridesmaids dresses, flower girl dresses, or a even a tuxedo for the groom. The bridal boutique was recently honored by the Knot Best of Weddings for 2011 for all of their hard work  Whether you are getting married in South Hadley, or across the state in Boston, Bridal Heirlooms should be on your list your of places to shop.

As our business grows, one of my goals is to “pay it forward”. I always try and surround myself with the best in the industry, so I am always challenged to improve our product and to learn new things at the same time. This past month I had the opportunity to give back a little of what we’ve learned, as I was highlighted as the Spotlight Videographer at the National Professional Videographers Association of New England (NPVA) October meeting in Dedham, Massachusetts. Some of our recent wedding highlights, trailers and feature films were shown along with an introductory video of the company. We were able to share some information about our transition to DSLR cameras and what things to consider when making the move. It was fun to share our growth from shooting mostly Western Mass. weddings to now creating films in Boston, Cape Cod, Maine, Newport, Hartford and the Connecticut Coastline. I have attached an introductory video below which served as a mini-bio for the attendees that night. It’s just a basic interview, but it gives a little of the background of our company and where it all started.
